Textiles Summary

This A-level course introduces students to a variety of experiences exploring a range of textile media, techniques and processes. Students will be given the opportunity to investigate both traditional and new technologies and research design, from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples.
Students will develop their awareness of the elements of Textile Design and appreciation of the relationship of form and function. They will also learn to understand and apply a variety of textile methods such as; fabric painting (mono printing, relief printing and/or screen printing), tie-dye, batik, spraying, transfer and fabric construction and stitching (appliqué, patchwork, padding, quilting and/or embroidery).

Entry Requirements

5 x grade 5 or above (including GCSE Maths and English Language) 

Grade 5 (or Level 2 Merit) in a creative subject i.e Art, Textiles

How you will study

Students will evidence their work in three different forms, these include; sketchbook, portfolio pages and final pieces.

Component breakdown

A2 outline- at A2, candidates are required to build upon the knowledge, understanding and skills gained in AS with greater depth of study: 

  • A2 Unit 3 Personal Investigation
  • A2 Unit 4 Externally set assignment.

This course would be a requirement for entry to any Art, Fashion or Textile based Degree courses. This course will also provide access to degree apprenticeships in the textile industry.
