Students at Wilsthorpe Sixth Form are taught by subject experts who have a wealth of experience in A Level teaching. Students are allowed to flourish in the Sixth Form and are provided with opportunities to develop as truly independent learners.

To support this, students at our Sixth Form are also provided with a study skills programme during tutor time to support them in the transition from Level 2 to Level 3 study. The study skills programme uses both the A Level Mindset programme alongside developing student metacognition.

If students require additional support with their learning, they should speak to their subject tutors or the Head of Sixth Form.

Inclusion Support at Wilsthorpe Sixth Form

Every child is unique in terms of their interests, abilities, motivation and learning needs. At Wilsthorpe we take into account these wide individual characteristics, and we try to ensure that those with exceptional learning needs and/or disabilities are fully included and have access to high quality and appropriate education. We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to achieve their potential in learning. Students with special educational needs (SEN) are fully included in all aspects of school life.

Wilsthorpe’s dedicated SEND team are:

Ms Faith Pickering: SENCO  faith.pickering@wilsthorpe.ttct.co.uk

Ms K Devlin: Team Leader for DSEN students – kylie.devlin@wilsthorpe.ttct.co.uk

Mrs H Scott: Assistant Headteacherhelen.scott@wilsthorpe.ttct.co.uk

Special Consideration

Students with learning difficulties are tested and some will have help to access their exams. Students may have the opportunity to use the support of a reader and/or scribe or extra time. Those who qualify for special concessions work closely with staff to practise and gain experience to get maximum benefit in their final examinations.

At Wilsthorpe we recognise that people, situations and circumstances often need to be treated individually ensuring that all students are ready to learn, can access the curriculum and can make outstanding progress.

The essence of equity versus equality is highlighted in the picture below.
